dc.descriptionRelevance of the topic. The increasing number of elderly people causes a longer list of elderly clients for social workers. The well-being of elderly people is determined by how much their social needs are satisfied in the community. The aim of the thesis is to reveal the work of a social worker in the community while providing social services for elderly people. Objectives of the thesis: 1. To theoretically explain social work in the community. 2. To reveal the needs of elderly people. 3. To pick out social services provided for elderly people. 4. To identify the work of a social worker in the community while providing social services for elderly people. Methods of the research – qualitative study. Non probability, purposive, convenient sampling. Four social workers who work with elderly people took part in this research. Conclusions of the research. Empirical investigation revealed that respondents’ work in the community is mostly performed by providing sociocultural and mediation/ representation services for elderly people. The participants of the research while providing sociocultural services, motivate elderly people to group up, to expand their social circle, to build the community, also organize spare time activities. The respondents state that while providing mediation/ representation services, they enable elderly people to search the resources for the satisfaction of their needs, as well as cooperate with other institutions and centres providing social services, foster home or medical care institutions and non-governmental organizations. The participants emphasize that the work of a social worker in the community involving influential people and volunteers is not widely exercised.en
