The paper presents an analysis of scientific literature explaining the concept of water tourism and the preconditions for its development. This topic is relevant because of the development of awareness of the concept of water tourism, its development possibilities, description of water resources and their use for tourism activities as well as its interaction with other types of tourism. The aim is to analyse the possibilities of developing water tourism in Kaunas district. The objectives: to carry out the analysis of scientific literature to identify the concept of water tourism and the preconditions for its development; to analyse water tourism services and infrastructure in Kaunas district; to conduct research to analyse consumer and expert opinion on water tourism services in Kaunas District; to provide suggestions for further development possibilities of water tourism in Kaunas district. Methods of work: analysis of scientific literature, document analysis, interview, questionnaire, SWOT analysis. The structure. The concept of water tourism and preconditions for it are presented in the theoretical part. Analyses of the connection of water tourism with such types of tourism as active, sport, rural, responsible, sustainable, ecological and description of water tourism activities, resources, services and infrastructure are also described in this part. The characteristics of Kaunas district, descriptions of the largest water resources of this region, elements of water tourism infrastructure in the district, providers of water tourism services, retreats and campsites near water resources, rural tourism homesteads with water entertainment facilities and other water tourism development services in Kaunas region, the research (interviews and surveys), analysis of its results and the matrix of strengths, weaknesses, possibilities and threats (SWOT) of the water tourism opportunities in Kaunas region are discussed in the analytical part. The third part of the project presents opportunities for water tourism development in Kaunas district. After evaluating the possibilities of water tourism in Kaunas district, it has become clear that water tourism services and infrastructure are not sufficiently developed. Water resources are not exploited and there is a lack of information on water tourism services. That is why suggestions to solve these problems are provided. Scope of the work. dc.description.abstract	Darbe pateikiama mokslinės literatūros analizė, kurioje aiškinama vandens turizmo samprata ir plėtojimo prielaidos. Darbas aktualus yra dėl to, kad plėtojamas suvokimas apie vandens turizmo sampratą, sąveiką su kitomis turizmo rūšimis, plėtojimo galimybes, vandens išteklių pritaikymą ir panaudojimą turizmo veikloms. Darbo struktūra. Pirmoje teorinėje dalyje pateikiamas vandens turizmas ir jo plėtojimo prielaidos. Aiškinama vandens turizmo samprata, analizuojamos vandens turizmo ryšys tarp kitų turizmo rūšių: aktyvaus, sportinio, kaimo, atsakingojo, darnaus, ekologinio turizmo, aptariamos vandens turizmo veiklos, ištekliai, paslaugos ir infrastruktūra. Antroje analitinėje dalyje pateikiama Kauno rajono charakteristika, pateikiami didžiausių Kauno rajono išteklių aprašymai, vandens turizmo infrastruktūros dalys Kauno rajone, vandens turizmo paslaugų teikėjai, poilsiavietės ir stovyklavietės prie vandens telkinių, kaimo turizmo sodybos su vandens pramogomis, kitos vandens turizmo paslaugų plėtojimo prielaidos Kauno rajone, pateikiamas tyrimas (interviu ir apklausa), jo analizė bei rezultatai ir vandens turizmo galimybių Kauno rajone stiprybių, silpnybių, galimybių ir grėsmių (SSGG) matrica. Trečioje projektinėje dalyje pateikiamos vandens turizmo plėtros galimybės Kauno rajone. Atlikus vandens turizmo galimybių vertinimą Kauno rajone paaiškėjo, jog vandens turizmo paslaugos ir infrastruktūra nėra išplėtota. Taip pat nėra išnaudojami vandens telkiniai, trūksta informacijos apie vandens turizmo paslaugas, todėl yra pateikiami pasiūlymai, kurie padėtų išspręsti iškilusias problemas. Darbą sudaro 62 puslapiai, 5 lentelės, 30 paveikslų, 78 literatūros ir informacijos šaltiniai, 8 priedai.	en_US
