According to the respondent's opinion, the key change in the mouth cavity of Down syndrome patients is a large tongue that does not fit in their mouth. A majority of them said, that their child grew his first teeth at the age of two. The reason behind their first visit to the dentist was pain. Research results have shown, that most of the respondent's children have had issues with their teeth and they would usually visit the dentist every six months. Most respondents stated that their children do not mind going to the dentist, the doctor and the doctors assistant interact with the child accordingly and provide the necessary information on the oral hygiene of children that are suffering from Down syndrome. The participants thought that gaining the trust of the patient is essential in the job of a dentist or dentist's assistant. The research results have shown, that according to the respondents opinion, one should brush his teeth twice a day and take part in individual oral hygiene in order to prevent tooth shade. The respondents have said that they usually help their children brush their teeth, which they normally do twice a day. All of the participants said that heir child uses a tooth brush and that they have chosen the oral health care products themselves. More women than men participated in the research, they were aged 41-50. Most of them have a higher education degree and are married. |
