dc.description Ieva Dautaraitė (Dental hygiene program of study) conducted a thesis „The attitude of educators working in special education institutions on the development of proper oral hygiene habits in children“. Project leader Danguolė Grūnovienė. Kaunas College, Faculty of Medicine, Depertment of Dental Health; Kaunas, 2018. Disorders such as Autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome affect the mind, body and everyday life skills: thinking, speaking and taking care of yourself. People often need extra help to reach and maintain good oral health. For this reason, final work goal - to reveal the attitude of educators working in special education institutions to the development of proper oral hygiene habits for children. The research objectives: 1. To distinguish the specifics of the oral condition of children with special needs. 2. In theory, justify the principles of proper oral care. 3. Identify the opinion of educators working in special education institutions about the development of proper oral hygiene habits in children. The paper analyzes the literature in order to find out the peculiarities of children's oral health. The following are the basic principles of oral care for these children. The empirical part examines the views of educators working in special educational institutions on the development of proper oral hygiene habits in children. The chosen strategy for empirical research is a quantitative study. The data collection method is used, the research tool is a written survey - a questionnaire. The survey was attended by 47 teachers working in special educational institutions. The interviewees were from Rusnė and Kaunas. The study revealed that teachers interested in oral hygiene in specialized educational institutions are interested in knowing the main changes in the oral condition characteristic of children with one or another disorder. Most educators try to develop proper oral hygiene habits for children using visual material, organize activities on oral hygiene. Most teach how to brush a teeth with a soft bristle brush, twice a day, but some oral hygiene issues do not provide educators with enough knowledge. The parents of the children are very rarely involved with oral hygiene, which indicates poor collaboration to preserve healthy children's teeth and periodontal disease. We can judge that the children's oral cavity is not qualitatively cleaned, as most respondents indicated a brief period of teeth cleaning. Children who have special needs in a short period of time make this difficult due to lack of physical and motor abilities. In summary, it can be stated that the attitudes of educators working in special educational institutions on the development of proper oral hygiene habits for children are quite positive, but some issues lack knowledge. en
