Akvilė Pomeckytė (Oral Hygiene Studies Program) made a final project about “Adult’s knowledge about factors determining the emergence and prevention of periodontal diseases”. In charge: prof. Goal of the final project: to show the knowledge that adults have about factors determining the emergence and prevention of periodontal diseases. Research tasks: 1. Theoretically look into periodontal diseases and structure. 2. Describe the predisposing factors for periodontal diseases, alongside treatment and prevention. 3. Show the knowledge that the adults have about factors determining the emergence and prevention of periodontal diseases. Research methods and contingent. A scholar literature analysis and a questionnaire online was done during the research. To determine the knowledge that adults have about the emergence of periodontal diseases, there was a quantitative research being done online. The data for research was being collected from March 26th, 2018 until April 25th, 2018. There were 184 participants. The participants were selected randomly. The instrument of a research - questionnaire - had 19 questions. Statistical analysis of the research data was made using the Microsoft Excel 2016. Results. 133 out of 184 participants believe, that periodontal diseases emerge due to poor oral hygiene habits. Most of participant get the information about the periodontal diseases from their dentist, rather than their mouth hygienist. The large amount of participants also believe, that in order to prevent periodontal diseases they must visit the mouth hygienist, and go see the dentist for prophylaxis regularly. Conclusions. After analyzing the research, one can say, that the participants are well informed about their oral hygiene and health. Large amount of participants know the factors determining the emergence of periodontal diseases, so one can state, that the information adults know about periodontal diseases is enough, however, the majority of participants get that information from the dentist or the internet, compared to the minority who get their information from mouth hygienist. The majority of the participants also claimed to know the prevention methods to prevent periodontal diseases, and believed, that regular visits to see mouth hygienist can help avoid other dental diseases.
