To compare the changes in emotional state and independence of people with dementia after occupational therapy based on animal assisted activities.
Research methodology: quantitative research with elements of qualitative research. Data collection methods: testing, observation.
Methods of data analysis: descriptive statistics calculations, content analysis.
Results: the pre-test assessment of the subjects' independence and emotional state revealed impaired independence, as well as symptoms of anxiety and depression. After the study, independence improved, and symptoms of anxiety and depression decreased. Comparing the instrumental assessment with clinical observation, the results are quite similar, the clinical observation provides a more detailed picture of the improvement in emotional status compared to the HAD Scale but measuring independence with FIM provided sufficiently detailed data.
