dc.description Relevance of the topic. Children, young people with mental disabilities living in care homes are more or less dependent on social workers, social worker assistants, and other support staff. Every foster and his skills are individual, so the assistance provided in the daily work is also individual. From the early childhood, fosters are encouraged to perform all the house work and personal hygiene procedures as independently as possible. It is difficult not only for the foster to do this educational process, but for a social worker who works directly with the client. There are various difficulties and problems in this process too. In order for a client to become as independent as possible and need only minimal assistance, consistent work is required. That is a long and complicated process, since clients have a mental, physical or complex disability. The complexity of this process is determined not only by disability but also by previous, negative personal experiences, customer values, attitudes towards the family, its composition, traditions and other aspects, which, in most cases has not formed properly, therefore, it complicates the speed and results of the client's socialization process. The aim of the work is to identify the problems encountered by social workers in activities with mentally disabled residents. Research objectives: 1. To reveal the concept of disability; 2. To describe the activities of a social worker with mentally disabled residents. 3. To identify the problems encountered by social workers in activities Quantitative - descriptive in residential care homes. Question of the study: What are the problems encountered by social workers while working with mentally disabled residents? Subject of the study: Problems encountered by social workers in activities with mentally disabled residents of residential care homes. Research methodology:Analysis of legal documents and scientific literature were used. There were also used quantitative research and questionnaire surveys. Selection of respondents was non-probabilistic and convenient. Research type: Quantitative – descriptive. Targeted audience are 30 social workers that work with mentally disabled residents in residential care homes. Conclusions: The research revealed that the main problems faced by social workers, working in a care home are high workloads and optimization of work distribution. Due to the excessive workloads, the specialists are incapable of performing all the planned work, the quality of the work and the desired goals. The goals pursued by the caretakers are more difficult to implement, and this process takes a longer time, as they cannot give enough time for every foster. en
