dc.description	Geographic information systems technology is an integral part of everyday life in various fields. In the past, paper maps were used, and presently, interactive maps are popular. With 2022 approaching, when Kaunas will become the European Capital of Culture, the city officially announces that the transition from "temporary to modern" capital is taking place. Therefore, in this work, using advanced technologies, the historical maps of Kaunas are transferred to the virtual space. By exploring the maps, Lithuanian residents and guests can get acquainted with the history of Kaunas city, its territorial and architectural development. The final paper describes Kaunas topographic maps and plans of three periods: published from the middle of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century; interwar period; post war. The cartographic material shows the development, growth rates and directions of the city. An analysis of the supply of interactive maps has shown that the web maps used, both at the municipal and global level, are popular and necessary in many areas. While comparing two technologies for creating interactive maps: geoportal.lt service and ArcGIS Online, the latter was chosen due to its functionality and improved visualization. The collected topographic maps of Kaunas from the end of the 19th century until the restoration of independence were scanned, thus obtaining raster images. Georeferencing was performed using ArcMap 10.7 software, the ArcGIS Online platform and the Story Maps tool were used to create the interactive application. The interactive application "Kaunas in Historical Maps" describes and compares different periods historical and modern maps. The application allows interactive management of maps, the vertical bar lets to compare and analyse how the view of the city has changed from 1889 to present days.	en_US
dc.description.abstract	Geografinių informacinių sistemų technologijos neatsiejama kasdienio gyvenimo dalis įvairiose srityse. Praeityje buvo naudojami popieriniai žemėlapiai, šiais laikais populiarūs – interaktyvieji žemėlapiai. Artėjant 2022 metams, kuomet Kaunas taps Europos kultūros sostine, miestas oficialiai skelbia, jog vyksta perėjimas „iš laikinosios į šiuolaikinę“ sostinę. Todėl šiame darbe naudojant pažangias technologijas istoriniai Kauno žemėlapiai perkeliami į virtualią erdvę. Tyrinėdami žemėlapius Lietuvos gyventojai bei svečiai gali susipažinti su Kauno miesto istorija, jo teritorine, architektūrine raida. Baigiamajame darbe aprašomi trijų laikotarpių Kauno topografiniai žemėlapiai ir planai: išleisti nuo XIX a. vid. iki XX a. pr; tarpukario; pokario meto. Kartografinė medžiaga rodo miesto vystymosi, augimo tempus bei kryptis. Interaktyvių žemėlapių pasiūlos analizė parodė, jog, tiek savivaldybių, tiek pasauliniu lygiu, naudojami internetiniai žemėlapiai yra populiarūs bei reikalingi daugelyje sričių. Lyginant dvejas technologijas interaktyviems žemėlapiams kurti: geoportal.lt paslaugą bei ArcGIS Online, buvo pasirinkta pastaroji dėl funkcionalumo bei ištobulintos vizualizacijos. Surinkti Kauno topografiniai žemėlapiai nuo XIX a. pabaigos iki nepriklausomybės atkūrimo skenuojami taip gaunant rastrinius vaizdus. Geografinis orientavimas erdvėje vykdomas, pasitelkus ArcMap 10.7 programinę įrangą, interaktyvios aplikacijos kūrimui naudojama ArcGIS Online platforma ir Story Maps priemonė. Interaktyvioje aplikacijoje „Kaunas istoriniuose žemėlapiuose“ aprašomi bei palyginami įvairių laikotarpių istoriniai ir šiuolaikiniai žemėlapiai. Aplikacijoje galima interaktyviai valdyti žemėlapius, vertikalus skirtukas leidžia palyginti ir analizuoti kaip keitėsi miesto vaizdas nuo 1889 m. iki šių dienų.	en_US
