General Practice Nursing Students' Knowledge on Blood Donation

Abstract

The relevance of topic: Blood is the most important symbol of human life and after the loss of a large amount of blood, there is even a risk of death if the body does not produce it. To date, a synthetic blood substitute has not been created, so in severe clinical situations, where there is a sudden loss of a large amount of blood, blood is chosen as a treatment tactic transfusion. Blood transfusion is very important to our society. Blood donation is becoming more and more relevant in society as the demand for blood transfusions continues to increase. Students represent an important part of the population . It is important for students to know and understand who needs a blood donation, what it is used for and how blood donation is performed. To increase the understanding of the importance of blood donation, every citizen needs to know the importance of blood donation. Theme of the research: Describe student’s knowledge about blood donation Objectives of the research: 1. To analyze data about blood donation 2. To analyze data about the factors that influence donation and describe conseption of blood donation and organization in Lithuania. 3. Evaluate students‘ experience on blood donation. 4. Evaluate students‘ awareness about blood donation. Methods of research: The analysis of scientific and theoretical literature and analysis of online sources, questionnaire survey. Conclussion: Based on the data revealed, bigger part of the respondants have never donated blood, half of the respondants are not sure if they are going to donate blood in the future, and 5 respondats were positive, that they will not be donating blood at all. On the other hand, the results of the survey are hopeful, because most of the students answered given questions correctly, even the harder ones. It is clear, that our community is doing a pretty good job of blood donating services in our country, but people would like more advertisements about blood donating, in order for more people to join in helping those in need with just a little bit of effort.
