Aim of study – to reveal the parental attitude towards the influence of children’s oral hygiene and dietary habits on primary dentition. Objectives: to describe morphological peculiarities of primary dentition and significance for oral health, to discuss the principles of children’s oral hygiene and nutrition, to reveal the parents’ attitude towards the influence of children’s oral hygiene habits on primary dentition, to reveal the parents’ attitude towards the influence of children’s dietary habits on primary teeth. Methods. Scientific literature analysis, paper-based questionnaire, statistical analysis. The study „Parents’ attitude towards the influence of children’s oral hygiene and dietary habits on primary dentition“ was performed by a quantitative study. Questionnaire survey was held from January 15th to February 28th, 2018. 101 respondents participated in the study – 89 percent women and 11 percent men. The age of respondents varied from 25 to 51 years old. Statistical data analysis and graphics were carried out in the Microsoft Excel program. Results. The results of study revealed that parents often do not adequately shape their child’s oral hygiene skills, are not sufficiently active in children’s tooth brushing process, parents have insufficient knowledge about caries prophylaxis. Most parents do not know when to take their children to the dentist for the first time. The reasons for visits to the dentist: prophylactic dental check-up, caries, pain and the issuance of a child's medical certificate to the kindergarten. Not all parents practically apply the principles of healthy eating in the child's diet, parents lack information about damage to the teeth of excessive carbohydrate intake. Fruit and vegetable consumption is not enough – 9 percent said that they never eat vegetables, 4 percent do not eat fruit. Child often eats sweets and also consumes too much sugary drinks. The majority of children do not have good snack habits – 56 percent snack between the main meals, 7 percent - before night sleep. 26 percent of parents themselves put sweet snack in their children lunch box to carry to kindergarten. Parents’ behaviour contributes to their child's irregular eating habits shaping their behaviour. en
