dc.description Relevance of the problem. On purpose of keeping good oral health, many factors are necessary– financial welfare, sophistication, social integration and good general state of organism. Despite the inevitable biological factors, such as age, gender, one of the most important factors, guaranteeing good oral state of the individual, is personal and professional oral hygiene. Social and economic changes happening in Lithuania, influence of innovations in the area of odontology and oral care, the tendency of societal ageing make influence on the individual’s attitude towards oral hygiene. Personal oral hygiene habits and skills, attitude towards the necessity of oral hygienist’s services, teeth brushing, frequency of the visits at the oral hygienist’s, usage of oral hygiene measures were analysed during the study. Objective of the final work– to determine the attitude of the people towards oral hygiene with reference to socioeconomic factors. Tasks of the study: 1. To theoretically ground the importance of professional and individual oral hygiene. 2. To reveal the attitude of the people towards oral hygiene with reference to socioeconomic factors. 3. To identify socioeconomic factors having most influence on the attitude of the people to oral hygiene. Material and methods. The final work performs the analysis of academic and professional literature and analyses the anonymous questionnaire. The study was performed from April 4, 2018 to May 2, 2018, 141 respondents took part in the study. The participants of the study were selected using the method of nonprobability occasional sampling. Statistical data analysis and tables were formed using Microsoft Office Excel 2010 programme pack. Results of the research. There are noticeable habits of oral hygiene between men and women, rural and urban residents. 9.2% of men (women 2.6%), 12.3% of rural (urban– 0.0%) residents stated that they do not brush their teeth, 27.7% of rural (urban– 15.8%) residents and 27.7% of men (women– 17.6%) do not visit the oral hygienist. Young and average– age respondents brushed their teeth more often, visited the oral hygienist more regularly, and used a wider spectrum of oral hygiene measures than older respondents. Older than 61 years respondents evaluated their oral state more badly. Even 36.8% respondents of this age group did not brush their teeth, 52.6% did not visit the oral hygienist. There was nobody among those receiving bigger than average or big income, those having higher or higher non– university education, who did not brush the teeth, did not use any oral care measures and who thought that the performed oral health procedures are not necessary. When analysing the relation of social groups and attitude towards oral health, it can be seen that the attitude of the most socially vulnerable groups– pensioners, unemployed, disabled– to oral hygiene was significantly more negative than that of other respondents. Most people not using any oral hygiene measures and not brushing their teeth were among these groups, 50.0% of pensioners indicated not visiting the oral hygienist’s, 100.0% of the disabled indicated that their teeth are affected by caries. Conclusion of the research. The analysis of the data received during the study shows that age, gender and belonging to a separate social group are the factors having the most influence on the attitude towards personal and professional oral hygiene. No more considerable correlations between the marital status, the number of people living in the family, the attitude towards oral hygiene could be observed. en
