| dc.description | During recent years, the area of tourism has been developing rapidly. New tourism niches are introduced constantly, broadening an already large variety of tourism options. Some of those niches do not create new tourism locations and objects, but describe an already existing ones in a different light and invite tourists to see it from a new perspective, which is the most important feature of dark tourism. The definition of dark tourism is quite contraversial, describing it as a travel to various locations that are somehow connected to death, suffering and tragedy. Probably every tourist had visited a dark tourism location, learned about its history, observed its exhibits, but did not know that it is considered to be a dark tourism object. In dark tourism experience, story telling plays the most important part, as it tries to give an emotional view of events that could resonate with a traveler on a personal level. Dark tourism also invites to recognize the forgotten places and embark on an adventure that may not always be comfortable and satisfying, but definitely interesting. Tourists that visit different countries seek to learn about their culture and heritage, but lately travelers pursue original tours that can provide the true and raw history of the location. Thus the aim of present thesis is – to create a dark tourism service package in Kaunas district. While the object of the research is – dark tourism in Kaunas district. While conducting the research, investigating and analyzing scientific sources of literature, the concept of dark tourism was defined, along with the most important travel service features and aspects of hospitality marketing. The research conducted consisted of a survey and interviews. During this research, the respondents helped to understand their familiarity with the dark tourism concept and what type of tours have potential in Kaunas district. Thesis also includes SWOT analysis and suggestions how dark tourism can be incorporated in the tourism industry of Kaunas district. Finally, conclusions are presented. While creating a new dark tourism service package, a clear definition of the term must be established before creating a tour. Tourists should be introduced to the notion, and for that, good dissemination of information is necessary. There are plenty of dark tourism locations in Kaunas district that have potential of pleasing dark tourists’ needs, and with some adjustments, like themed tours and original experiences, the latter can be achieved. | en |
| dc.description.abstract | Turizmas suteikia galimybę žmonėms keliauti po svečias šalis, regionus ar miestus ir susipažinti su kitų šalių kultūra, tradicijomis, paveldu, gamta. Turizmo dėka žmonės pamato naujas vietas ir šioje srityje dirbančios įmonės gauna pelną bei taip didina savo šalių populiarumą. Laikui bėgant, atsiranda vis daugiau turizmo rūšių, keleivių traukos objektų, pasauliniu mastu vykstančių renginių, kurie skatina žmones keliauti ir susipažinti su svečiomis šalimis. Viena iš šių turizmo rūšių yra tamsusis turizmas. Tamsusis turizmas tai keliavimas į lokacijas kažkaip susijusias su mirtimi, kančiomis ir tragedija (Lennon ir Foley, 1996). Tamsusis turizmas leidžia keliautojams atrasti istorines vietas iš naujo ir pažvelgti į jas iš kitos perspektyvos. Taip pat, tamsusis turizmas apima daug daugiau nei tik istorines vietoves su tamsia praeitimi, bet ir pramogas su siaubo prieskoniu ir panašius dalykus. Visa tai ir kitos priežastys nulėmė tamsiojo turizmo populiarumo augimą per pastarąjį dešimtmetį ir tai yra vis dar auganti turizmo niša. Naujas tamsiojo turizmo paslaugų rinkinys gali pritraukti naujų turistų segmentų į savo vietoves. | en_US |
