dc.description Diseases characterized by increased gastric secretion are among the most commonly practiced in pharmacy practice. The increased acidity of gastric juice affects the entire gastrointestinal tract, accelerating the development of peptic ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) and other diseases. An over-the-counter medication that has been incorrectly or incorrectly chosen may eventually cause a lot of unwanted reactions, so the role of the pharmacist is very important in giving advice to the population about drug use. Aim of the thesis. To reveal the role of a pharmaceutical specialist in the patient's choice of over-the-counter acid-reducing drugs. Objectives. 1. To reveal the groups of medicines that reduce the acidity of gastric juices and to describe the requirements for their use. 2. Theoretically, describe the pharmacist's practice in the pharmacy and possible problems with the use of medicines to reduce the acidity of stomach acid when acquiring the medicine. 3. Uncover the role of a pharmacy specialist in choosing acidreducing drugs without a prescription. Methodology. Two questionnaires were made for the study. One was intended for patients, buying nonprescription drugs, other – for pharmaceutical professionals. There were 83 patients and 24 pharmaceutical professionals participating in the study. Analysis of data collected was processed using windows Exel 2015. Results. - The study was attended by mostly selfadministered patients. They claimed that they were taking medicines immediately after experiencing symptoms (56.4%). Most did not receive enough targeted questions from a pharmacy specialist (53.9%) when purchasing medicinal products. Patients are likely to use stronger drugs (PPI) to reduce gastric acid juice (41.7%), but these drugs are not used in severe illnesses. Pacients frequently asked questions are related to drug use (53.8%) when selecting proton pump inhibitors (58, 3 percent). Most often, pharmacists only succeed in providing comprehensive counseling and avoiding patient drug use problems. (62.5%). Therefore, patients sometimes experience selfmedication, but only with repeat symptoms (64.1%) Conclusions. Currently, three nonprescription medicines that reduce the acidity of gastric juice are registered in Lithuania. The use of these medicines depends on the patient's condition. Pharmacist pharmacy practice, including the provision of pharmaceutical information and counseling about medicinal products,. However, drug use problems are a common occurrence among patients when they buy a medicine. More than half of the respondents who participated in the survey began to use gastric acid suppressants at the young age. One of the most commonly used drug groups is proton pump inhibitors. en
