Relevance of the topic. 65 percent of radiologic technologists have experienced work-related injuries in the work environment according to a survey held by Ofori-Manteauw and colleagues in 2015(Ofori-Manteauw&Antw, 2015). 85.3 percent of respondents claimed to feel lower back pain, neck and shoulders stretching. It was established that the emergence of health problems may be caused by the ergonomic risk factors.
The aim of this work: is to examine the influence of ergonomic risk factors on radiologic technologist’s health.
Objectives:
1. Discuss the main ergonomic risk factors of radiologic technologist’s work.
2. Identify the ergonomic risk factors in the work environment of radiologic technologist’s group.
3. Establish the link between ergonomic risk factors and health issues of respondents.
Research object: ergonomic risk factors.
Methodology. An anonymous questionnaire was conducted at the Clinic of Radiology of Kaunas Clinics of LSMUL in 2019 March-April to determine the influence of ergonomic risk factors on radiologic technologist’s health. Bioethics Centre of LSMU was grated permission to carry out the survey. Scientific literature was studied, and quantitative research was carried out for 74 respondents (N=74, response rate 92.5 %). “SPSS for Windows 10” package was used.
Results. It was found that 39.24 percent (N=29) of radiologic technologists rated the workplace as partially good according to ergonomic approach. Respondents (N=74) consider that the most common ergonomic risk factor is working with the patient (5.53 points average). It was established that 64.9 percent of the radiologic technologists experience back pain after working with medical radiological equipment. Also, 78.4 percent (N=58) of respondents said that intense work with computer may lead to eye problems.
Conclusions. Radiologic technologists often encounter ergonomic risk factors such as working with the patient and medical radiological equipment, prolonged sitting and continuous usage of computer. The specialist’s musculoskeletal system and eyes are mostly affected during work. |
