dc.description Topicality of the study. CHF syndrome is frequent and increasing problem in world and in Lithuania. Rapidly increasing number of the people with CHF becomes a problem not only for people with this condition and their family members, but also for medical institution. In order to decrease the number of hospitalizations and improve the quality of patient’s life it is important for nurses to identify the knowledge of patients with chronic heart failure about their disease and to examine their selfcare behavior. Aim of the study. To estimate the knowledge of the patients about heart failure condition and about selfcare behavior. Tasks of final thesis. Accomplishing this study, the main tasks were to analyze HF syndrome from a theoretical point of view, examine the knowledge of HF patients about this disease and reveal the level of their self-care. Methods. Literature analyses related with HF syndrome was accomplished during the final thesis work. The used research method was a written questionnaire. It consisted of two standardized questionnaires. The questionnaire was distributed to 40 patients with CHF who were treated in hospital “X” Department of Cardiology. Data from the study were analyzed using Microsoft Excel 2013 program. The results of study are presented graphically and in tables. Results. During the study was found that most of the respondent had poor level of knowledge (57,5 percent). The least number of respondents knew about physical activity support (37,5 percent), how to deal with big thirst (30 percent) and the causes of worsening HF symptoms (37,5 percent). The least performed self-care activities are these: regular exercising (27,5 percent), referral to a doctor or nurse heightened fatigue (30 percent) and referral to a healthcare professional when the weight increases more than 2 kilos in a week (37,5 percent). Conclusions. Heart failure can best be described as a clinical syndrome with symptoms related to impaired myocardial ventricular function. It was found that people with CHF does not have enough knowledge about this condition. The lowest amount of knowledge of HF patients was about maintaining physical exertion, causes of worsening of HF symptoms, and how to deal with big thirst. Also, it was found that the average self-care score was almost half the number of possible points. Respondents rarely performed these self-care activities: exercised regularly, contacted a doctor or nurse with a weight gain of more than 2 kilos per week and after fatigue increased. en_US
