dc.description Relevance of the study: Every year in Lithuania about 16,000 people are diagnosed by cancer and more than 8,000 people of population dies from the oncological diseases. Person who has found out about a cancer diagnose survives a psychological crisis, anxiety, depression. Depression syndrome is a frequent psychiatric disorder characterizes by bad mood, reduced interest in a social and favorite activities, self-accusation or low self-esteem, sleep disturbance, lack of appetite, attention and energy. As a result, the perception of life and the quality of life suffers. If the patients do not find help in the health care facilities each one solves their psychological problems individually. Depression leads suicide, tragically deaths. The aim of the study: to found out nurses activities by recognizing depression among oncological patients. Tasks of the study: 1. Define depression in patients with oncological diseases; 2. Identify nursing problems by recognizing depression in oncology patients; 3. Investigate the activities of nurses to identify depression in patients with oncological diseases. Empirical research methodology: The analysis of scientific literature, qualitative research, anonymous questionnaire and content analysis were chosen for the research. The study took place in December 2018. The questionnaire consists of 29 closed questions. The study was conducted in hospital X, department X. The study involves 30 health care professionals – nurses with experience of caring oncological patients. Research results: based on the received results, it was found that mood swings were influenced by side effects caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Accordingly to the results, it is difficult to determine if the patient has symptoms of depression or whether they have side effects. Findings of the research: Analyzing the data obtained from the study, learned that some respondents often observe mood fluctuations among oncological patients. Most believe that depression is due to side effects of oncological treatment. The main nursing activities would be to timely observe the mood fluctuations of oncological patients, and to reduce the intensity of side effects of treatment. dc.description.abstract Šiuo darbu siekiama išnagrinėti slaugytojų veiklą atpažįstant onkologinėmis ligomis sergančių pacientų depresiją. Išnagrinėjus literatūrą, išsiaiškinta, kad chemoterapinio gydymo ir spindulinės terapijos sukelti šalutiniai simptomai daro įtaką nuotaikų svyravimui. Emocinės būklės pakitimai gali sąlygoti depresijos simptomų pasireiškimą. Literatūrinėje dalyje iškeliamos slaugos problemos depresija sergantiems pacientams.
