dc.description Relevance of topic: The medical norm MN 28: 2011, approved by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Lithuania, indicates that pain management is subordinate to the nurse's competences and functions and, as Riklikienė (2010) points out, is one of the main directions of patient care. According to Glowacki (2015), effective pain management, improvement in patient outcomes and satisfaction with the treatment facility are directly related to the work done by nurses. Motov et al (2018) states that pain is one of the biggest health problems in the world, according to Pierik et al. (2017), pain is the main complaint of patients visiting emergency departments. The WHO, together with many national professional organizations and agencies, has recognized that pain management is an essential aspect of patient care. The aim. To evaluate the professional activity of nurses in the management of acute pain in patients. Tasks of work. 1. To describe the problems caused by acute pain in modern society. 2. To describe the methodological recommendations for clinical evaluation of acute pain and competences of nurses. 3. To expose patients’ expectations of acute pain management. 4. Investigate patients' attitudes towards the role of nurses in the management of acute pain. Methods of research. 1. Analysis of scientific and professional literature. 2. Interview of the patients. 3.Processing of received data. Object of research - patients, who experienced acute pain, attitude towards the professional activity of the nurses. Results of research. The results of the study showed that it is important for the patients to come to the emergency department to assess their pain. Their expectations of managing acute pain include choosing a comfortable position, receiving medicines, providing information to them and their relatives. Conclusion. The professional activities of the emergency nurses' revealed in the study showed that the positive attitude of nurses in the management of acute pain to most emergency patients is due to timely treatment of pain, empathy, transfer of desired information on the course of treatment to the patient and his relatives. The negative attitude of patients towards the professional activity of nurses in the management of acute pain is due to lack of information, repeated lack of pain assessment, lack of medicines. en_US
