Bachelor thesis purpose - to determine nurse’s activities in intensive care unit after cardiac surgery in order to prevent delirium.
Thesis tasks: 1. To define post-surgery delirium causes, symptoms, risks and factors; 2. To reveal post-surgery delirium prevention methods; 3. To determine nursing problems and their solutions in intensive care unit after cardiac surgery, during delirium. Scientific literature analysis and written questionnaire were done in this thesis. Quantitative research was done in order to evaluate nurses’ activity experiences during delirium. Chosen data collection method was written survey. Survey took place from 2018 December 20th till 2019 January 1st, in which 80 respondents attended. Participants were selected in non-probability sample method. Survey instrument – questionnaire consisted of 15 questions. Statistical data analysis as well as tables and graphs were done using MS Excel 2013 software program. After survey and scientific literature research were done, it shows that main nursing problems during delirium consists of disorientation, anger, aggression, danger for patient and medical staff. Other problems are more complicated manipulations with a patient because of removed peripheral or central venous catheters, drains or probes. It is important to evaluate risk factors of delirium before surgery and symptoms of clinical disorder as well as differential diagnostics should be known. Furthermore, it is essential to monitor patient’s health condition. Nurse is first human, who notices and evaluates patient’s health changes, because of that it is required to ensure comprehensive and professional nursing. |
