The bachelor thesis explores job satisfaction among radiology technologists working at the department of radiation therapy. Forty three radiology technologists working at the departments of radiation therapy in Kaunas, Vilnius and Šiauliai were involved in the research. A questionnairing survey method was used to assess the quality of the work environment of the radiology technologists and the decisive factors affecting job satisfaction and approach to work. The methods of the research: literature analysis, questionnairing survey, statistical analysis. The goals of the thesis:
1. To determine the concept and applicability of radiation therapy. 2. To discuss the work, duties and responsibilities of the radiology technologist engaged in the practice of radiation therapy. 3. To disclose the attitude of a radiology technologist towards his/her work. 4. To identify the factors causing job satisfaction among the radiology technologists.
The findings of the study show that the major part of the radiology technologists are dissatisfied with their salary, relationships with colleagues and administration. A minor part of the technologists would like to have a reduced workload in order to avoid stress and fatigue and better career opportunities. A number of studies show the link between workplace stress, causing negative emotions, and physical and mental health disorders: cardiovascular diseases, sleep disorders, depression and a constant feeling of anxiety. It has a significant effect on the quality of work, therefore it is very important for an individual to be satisfied with his work environment and provided opportunities. The conclusions of the thesis:
1. Radiation therapy is one of the most efficient method applied for cancer treatment with ionising radiation sources ensuring safety of patients. 2. A radiology technologist is an integral part of a good and efficient ionising radiation therapy, responsible for the welfare of a patient when undergoing radiation therapy and using modern technologies for the realization of radiation therapy.
3. The data of the research revealed that radiology technologists’ job satisfaction and quality of work is dependent on the amount of salary, collective unity and a good relationship with a direct supervisor. 4. The research results clearly indicate that radiology technologists experience work-related stress and tensions, they are dissatisfied with their salary which leads to negative attitude towards their work. |
