dc.description Relevance of the topic: families having children with mental disabilities are special needs families that need social services. Support of social workers and family support play a very important role. Families that have children with mental disabilities lack not only material support, but also information about child’s mental disabilities, social services and education. Social worker’s activities when working with families that have children with mental disabilities help children and families to function fully. The aim of the research is to reveal social worker’s activities while working with families having children with mental disabilities. Tasks of the research: 1. To describe psychosocial characteristics of children with mental disabilities. 2. To describe complex help provided to families who have children with mental disabilities. 3. To identify social worker’s activities while working with families having children with mental disabilities. Research question: what is social worker’s activity while working with families having children with mental disabilities? Methods of the research: analysis of scientific literature, qualitative research. Subjects of the research: social workers working in social care institutions. Conclusions of the research: the research results revealed that social workers’ activities while working with families who have children with mental disabilities are the following: collection of information about the family in order to identify needs and to organize activity; crisis intervention in order to improve psychosocial condition of family and enable family having children with mental disabilities to improve the quality of child and family life; cooperation which results help to achieve mutual trust and respect. Consultation, social worker informs the family about possibilities to receive support of other specialists, state, provides information about possibilities to educate and train the child. Representation of family that due to certain reasons cannot represent their children with mental disabilities, therefore, a social worker represents them in medical institutions, police or schools. A social worker seeks that families and children with mental disabilities would maintain the closest possible relationships, and that the child is provided with appropriate living conditions and environment for education. en

Ypač reikšminga socialinių darbuotojų pagalba ir parama šeimai. Negalią turinčius vaikus auginančioms šeimoms, trūksta ne tik materialinės paramos, bet ir informacijos apie vaiko protinę negalią, socialines paslaugas, jo ugdymą bei lavinimą. Socialinio darbuotojo veikla, dirbant su šeimomis, kurios augina proto negalią turinčius vaikus, padeda vaikui ir šeimai visavertiškai funkcionuoti. en_US
