Urinary tract infection is one of the most common bacterial infections. This infection is caused by various gram-negative and gram-positive bacterias, viruses, fungi. E. coli bacteria is the most common cause of urinary tract infection. People of any ages can get this infection – from a new born baby to an old man (Flores-Mireles, Walker, Caparon, Hultgren, 2015). Although, women get this infection much more often then men. Deranged urination is the usual symptom of this infection. The main clinical forms of urinary tract infection are: cystitis (acute and chronic), pyelonephritis (acute and chronic), prostatitis (acute and chronic) and urethritis. Cystitis and pyelonephritis can occur again irrespectively of age or gender. That's why it's very important to choose the right medications and treatment duration. Long-term antimicrobial prophylaxis is necessary after the treatment (Foxman, 2014). Urinary tract infection is usually treated with antibiotics, however, there are a lot of herbal remedies that have healing properties and can help to avoid getting urinary tract infection. Cranberry products are one of the most common herbal remedies, which can be used as treatment or preventive measures.
This thesis consists of research of medical forms of urinary tract infection, its risk factors, inducers, the most common symptoms, and also treatment and prevention methods.
The purpose of this thesis is to find out the part that pharmacy specialist plays in helping the patients who has urinary tract infection. Thesis is divided into two parts. The second part consists of the analysis of the data collected from questionnaires. With this questionnaire it was sought to find out how well pharmacists help and consult patients who encounter symptoms of urinary tract infection. The respondents got 17 questions, which were both open questions (when respondent has to write in its opinion or other information) and forced screening questions (when a question has several answers and respondent has to choose one or several answers). 100 respondents got questionnaires and participated in this research.
After analyzing the results of questionnaire it turned out that usually people, who seek consultation or help from the pharmaceutical specialist due to urinary tract infection, are of older age, 60 years old and more and young people – 18 – 30 years old. The majority of people, who are consulting with a pharmacist, are complaining about urination disorders. Also it appeared, that more than half of the patients are requiring to be consulted in private. Majority of the respondents are offering to treat urinary tract infection with herbal remedies. |

Išnagrinėjus mokslinę - dalykinę literatūrą bei atlikus empirinį tyrimą buvo pateiktos išvados. Darbą sudaro įvadas, du skyriai, išvados, literatūros sąrašas bei priedai.
