Aim of the final theses: discover the relation between individual oral hygiene and periodontal condition of patients wearing braces. Objective of the final theses: 1. Describe the main concepts of orthodontic treatment and oral hygiene. 2. Theoretically prove the importance of proper oral hygiene while being treated with braces and the consequences of poor individual oral hygiene. 3. Asses the individual oral hygiene and periodontal condition of patients based on their self judgment. Material and methods: analysis of scientific literature was done for the final theses. To asses the relation between individual oral hygiene habits and periodontal condition of the patients wearing braces qualitative research was completed; the main method of data collection was partly structured interview. The research took place from December 11, 2017 to January 29, 2018. A targeted and homogenic sample of 8 people were interviewed. The questionnaire for the interview was composed of 6 questions. Results and conclusion: Orthodontics is defined as an area of dentistry that deals with the growth, development, and treatment of pathologies in teeth and jaws. Oral hygiene is described as oral care to prevent bacterial plaque. With poor individual oral hygiene skills, the amount periodontal diseases increases. Signs of gum inflammation are a key indicator that oral hygiene skills are inadequate during orthodontic treatment. The study showed that the periodontal condition of patients wearing braces is related to their individual oral hygiene habits. Participants of the study, who do not know the specifics of the teeth and braces during orthodontic, complain of bleeding gums, bad mouth breath, etc. It can be argued that the signs of gum inflammation are the main indicator that individual oral hygiene is inadequate during orthodontic treatment.
