Description:
A large number of studies have confirmed the effects of aromatherapy on the body in various ailments such as asthma, skin diseases, anxiety and stress, sleep disorders, eating disorders, childbirth pain, joint and muscle aches, postoperative pains, dementia, depression, and others. However, much less research has been where patients themselves, subjectively assesses the effect of aromatherapy on the body. Research in Lithuanian literature analyzing women's attitudes to the effects of aromatherapy is almost absent. Against this background, it is considered that the bachelor's thesis is relevant and scientifically new. The aim of this thesis is to reveal the opinions of expectant women about the effects of aromatherapy. The object of thesis is the effect of aromatherapy. Thesis tasks: 1. To reveal the concept and peculiarities of aromatherapy; 2. To discuss the effects of aromatherapy on a theoretical level; 3. To assess the expectations of women about the effects of aromatherapy A quantitative study was selected for this thesis. A questionnaire was selected as a method of this quantitative study. Data was interpreted using statistical descriptive analysis. This study was conducted at Public Health Center, Taikos pr. 76, in Klaipėda, while interviewing expectant female patients. This study involved 70 pregnant women who expressed their views on the effects of aromatherapy. Most of the interviewed women evaluated the effects of aromatherapy on the skin positively. The effects of aromatherapy on the skin were observed by most women one month or several weeks later. These results confirm the view expressed in scientific literature that the effect of the use of aromatherapy products on the skin is not noticeable immediately: the condition of the skin may begin to worsen and only then improve. Most of the interviewd women used aromatherapy products for the skin before pregnancy, but almost one third of theem refused to use aromatherapy products on the skin precisely because of their pregnancy. This opinion of the interviewed women is based on the belief that the use of aromatherapy products for the skin can harm the fetus, although scientific literature indicates that the safe use of essential oils can not harm the fetus. Most women reported that aromatherapy reduces cosmetic and dermatological problems in the skin. These results confirmed the view expressed in scientific literature that aromatherapy not only affects cosmetic skin problems, but also reduces dermatological problems of the skin.
