Pakulnyte G. Clients’ perceptions of chemical peelings and their effectiveness in managing adolescent acne problems. Supervisor – lecturer Vaiva Vaiksnoriene. Cosmetology course, Cosmetology department, Medicine faculty, Kaunas college, 2018. Relevance. Recently, chemical peeling procedures have become more common. They are often employed to manage acne problem in young people. Due to the fact that it is quite a harmless procedure, most dermatologists and cosmetologists suggest using topical chemical peelings to solve adolescent acne. The aim of the research: To explore clients’ perception of chemical peelings in managing acne problems in young people. The objectives of the research: 1. To define the meaning, to describe the symptoms and causes of adolescent acne. 2. To theoretically explore the implications of chemical peelings on the condition of skin affected by acne vulgaris. 3. To study clients’ perceptions of chemical peeling effectiveness when managing skin problems in relation to teenage acne damage by using survey results. Research methods: Systematic analysis of scientific and professional literature. Questionnaire. Narrative data analysis. Participants. 100 people, who have acne problem took part in the research. The age of participants ranged between 18 years old and 25 years old. Results: 1. Teenage acne is a chronic inflammation of sebaceous gland and hair follicle. This problem usually manifests in teenage stage of life. Main symptoms that are observed on skin affected by adolescent acne are open and closed comedones, papules, pustules. Possible formations of nodes and cysts can be prevalent in more severe cases of such acne problems. Adolescent acne usually affects the skin on one’s face, chest, and back. Teenage acne often transitions into postinflammatory hyperpigmentation and scars. Most common causes of acne problems in young people are hormonal factors, genetics, diet choices, and stress. 2. Chemical peelings are one of the most common cosmetic procedures used to manage adolescent acne. During the procedure, the links between cells and the outer layer of skin are disjointed by employing the effectiveness of acid. This type of exfoliation reduces comedones. Due to its lipofilling qualities, salicylic acid easily penetrates follicles filled with sebum and unclogs the pores. With the help of acid, the rate at which cells divide is accelerated while the
peeling of melanocytic cells is also facilitated. While the inflammation is managed, the production of new collagen production is facilitated, which explains the effectiveness of chemical peels when trying to correct scar problems. The type of acid and its strength are selected according to each individual and the degree of their skin problems. Most common acids to correct adolescent acne are salicylic, glycolic, almond, combined Jessner, and other acids. Medium-depth peelings and deep peelings are used to manage scars that appear after acne. 3. According to clients, chemical peeling procedures used to solve adolescent acne are an effective way to deal with such acne. Most people have observed how active ingredient in acid play a role when managing both inflammatory and non-inflammatory skin defects. The participants suggested that the result can be seen after as few as one chemical peeling procedure. The effectiveness of chemical peelings is amplified when combined with other cosmetological procedures. Chemical peeling procedures are most often used together with mechanical facial cleansing. When such procedure is performed, non-inflammatory spot fragments are mechanically removed while chemical peeling prevents post-inflammatory incidents.
