Ribeiro and other (2015) claim that lately natural cosmetics are becoming more and more popular, one of the reasons is that consumers are becoming more aware of materials used in cosmetics, so it is important to review components most commonly found in cosmetic formulations.
Aim of the study: Disclose women‘s knowledge of facial masks and their composition
Tasks:
1. Compare types of facial masks 2. Describe most commonly used facial mask components 3. Disclose women‘s knowledge regarding facial masks and their components
Methods of study: 52 women who use cosmetic facial masks participated in this quantitative research. Participants were asked to answer questions about facial mask usage and components of cosmetic facial mask formulations.
Results: Only minority of women were able to answer questions about most commonly used components in facial masks correctly.
Conclusion: Growing demand for more natural cosmetics prove that consumers are worried about synthetic materials used in cosmetics. Opinions differ about the use of silicones or synthetic preservatives as components for cosmetic products because of their effect to skin or human body in general. Study shows that women are interested in the composition of their facial masks, unfortunately, only minority of them can recognise most commonly used substances and name their function in cosmetic product. Consumers that know fundamentals of cosmetic compositions are more likely to find facial masks that fit their needs the best.
