Šiandieninėje visuomenėje ilgėjant gyvenimo trukmei, daugėjant rizikos veiksnių, kurie lemia onkologinės ligos atsiradimą, daugėja ir žmonių skaičius, kurie suserga onkologinėmis ligomis. Tuo pačiu sparčiai daugėja ir vėžiu sergančių žmonių artimųjų, kuriems yra reikalinga pagalba. Auga socialinio darbuotojo veiklos poreikis. Todėl yra svarbu išsiaiškinti, kokių socialinio darbuotojo veiklų reikia artimiesiems, prižiūrintiems onkologinius ligonius.

Relevance of the topic – In today's community a number of risk factors leading to an oncological illness grows, there are also growing numbers of people suffering from oncological diseases. At the same time, the number of people who are suffering from cancer is getting higher as well as their relatives, friends who need help. The need for a social worker is growing. That is why it is important to find out what kind of social worker's activities are needed for oncology patient’s relatives.
Work objective – to identify the need of social worker's activities for oncology patient’s relatives.
Tasks:
1. Describe the concept of oncological disease;
2. To reveal oncology patients' relative's social problems;
3. Describe the activities of a social worker for relatives of oncological patients;
4. Identify the need of a social worker for relatives of oncological patients.
Description of work – in the final thesis it is described what is a oncological illness, social problems of relatives of oncological patients, a social worker’s activities for oncology patients’ relatives and it is identified the need of a social worker for relatives of oncological patients.
Methodology – quantitative descriptive research. Non-probable, targeted, convenient selection. 30 respondents were interviewed – oncology patients' relatives.
Conclusion – According to the research data, it can be concluded that the work of a social worker is necessary for relatives of oncological patients. The biggest need of a social worker's activity is solving psychological problems, by fighting down an emotional tension and crisis situations. This is indicated by two thirds of respondents. The research revealed that the majority of respondents have a need for social worker activities, such as informing, mediation and representation, counseling need. The results of the research show that the social worker does not include volunteers in his activities, and his activities needs more assistants. Half of the respondents who participated in the study said that in general, there is not enough social workers and all kinds of care in their activities of taking care of a cancer patients.
