Description:
The human body is exposed to oxidative stress, due to environmental factors that are often toxic (UV radiation, exhaust gases, chemicals, etc.). This process underways, when free radicals, due to missing electron, destroy the walls of healthy cells, leading to severe consequences, such as damage to the DNA structure, activation of tumor cells and other pathologies. To prevent oxidative stress, antioxidants are indispensable, because those, which organism produces naturally, are not enough. Plants are one of the main sources of antioxidants that fights against free radicals and work as a prevention of oxidative stress. The main aim of research was to set antioxidant activity of hemp, moringa and spirulina leaves, using spectrophotometer. Research tasks were to determine antiradical activity, according to DPPH radical interconection method and total amount of phenolic compounds, according to Folin – Ciocalteu method. Material used for the research - aqueous extracts from leaf powder. Cannabis Sativa L. was distinguished by strong action of both radical interconnection and total amount of phenolic compounds. The highest inactivation indicator of hemp aqueous extracts samples reached 56 %, moreover, the total phenol content was 121 mg/g. Moringa Oleifera leaf powder showed a lower amount of phenolic compounds than DPPH • radical interconnection activity, when the maximum total phenolic compounds were only 9.6 mg/g, but inactivation index reached even 58 %. Spirulina Platensis did not show strong antiradical activity, which was highest ~11 %, however, the total amount of phenolic compounds was ~ 66 mg/g. Based on the results of the research, conclusion is that leaf powder of all three selected plants have both antioxidant effects and phenolic compounds. Results of the research might were influenced by plant origin, cultivation conditions, freshness, material extraction and other factors.
