Patient's Knowledge about the Causes of Development and Prevention of Acute Myocardial Infarction

Abstract

Revelence of the study: Heart disease is on the rise in Lithuania and throughout the world, and many are at increased risk of developing myocardial infarction, but few know how to prevent it. This study will analyse how many patients with heart disease are aware of the causes and prevention of myocardial infarction. Researh aim: To evaluate patient’s knowledge about the causes of development and prevention acute myocardial infarction. Task of bachelor’s thesis: 1. Describe the causes and prevention of myocardial infarction. 2. Evaluate patient’s knowledge about MI causes of development. 3. Evaluate patient’s knowledge about MI prevention. 4. Identify patient’s need for training related to MI preventive measures. Methods: Scientific literate analysis; quantitative research was conducted by using anonymous. The questionnaire consisted of 17 questions. Research was carried out at X Lithuanian Hospital. The main criteria for participants were patients in cardiology department. Conlusions: 1. Myocardial infarction causes is a slight deterioration of the blood flow to the heart muscle. Prevention of myocardial infarction : exercise more, eat healthy, balance food, avoid bad habits, lowering cholesterol. 2. The survey revealed that the patients have responded correctly about myocardial causes. 3. Results shows that participants have good knowledge about how to prevent myocardial infarction. 4. Research revealed that half of participants would be interested in additional training seminars about myocardial infarction and other half of participants are not interested. Participants responded 98% that they get information about their diseases from the doctor, and from nurse responded 50%.
