Relevance of the topic. The number of hysterectomies is increasing not only abroad but also in Lithuania. After surgical removal of the uterus, women have their own needs as well as after other operations and changes in health. The process of nursing care for women after surgical removal of the uterus involves both the patient's own efforts to recover, and the nurses or other persons who are near the patients, to help patients return to their daily activities as soon as possible. In order to investigate the nursing needs of women after uterine removal surgery, it is necessary to thoroughly analyze the research already carried out in this field in foreign countries and to develop research in Lithuania. It is especially important to identify nursing needs after hysterectomies performed in different operating metodes.
Aim of the thesis. To establish women‘s needs of nursing care after surgical removal of the uterus.
Objectives of the thesis.
1. To describe the indications and methods of surgical removal of the uterus and patients needs of nursing care in the early postoperative period 2. To identify women‘s needs of care after laparoscopic, vaginal and laparotomic surgery of the uterus
3. To compare women‘s needs of nursing care after different types of uterus removal.
Research methods. The survey of scientific literature, quantitative research and descriptive statistical analysis were performed. The data were collected by anonymous questionnaire survey. The study was conducted at the Gynecology Department of X hospital. Selection criteria of the subjects: women who had undergone surgical removal of the uterus. The study included 56 women who underwent laparoscopic, laparotomic and vaginal hysterectomy.
Research result. Comparison of the nursing care needs among all three types of hysterectomy patients showed that in the greatest need of care were patients after laparotomic surgery; while patients after laparoscopic surgery were in the least. The most common needs of nursing care for all women after hysterectomy included urination, nausea, breathing, communication, and help with personal hygiene and cleansing
