Relevance of the topic: topic about omega fatty acids is poorly investigated in Lithuania. There is a lack of information in lithuanian language, which can provide women with needed knowledge about useful omega fatty acids usage not only for the infant but for them also. Most of the times women are given information about folic acid and omega fatty acids are left behind but little that they know omega fatty acids are as beneficial as folic acid.
The main aim of this thesis – to analyse women’s knowledge of omega fatty acids and it‘s usage during pregnancy.
Tasks of this research:
1. To describe conception and benefits of omega fatty acids during pregnancy.
2. Reveal what womens do know about omega fatty acids and their utility for woman, fetus and newborn.
3. Ascertain tendencies of omega fatty acids usage during pregnancy.
Methodology of research: investigation was carried in Obstetrics departments of X and Y hospitals. Period of investigation 2018-10-29 - 2018-12-01. Quantitative research method was chosen, were data is collected using anonymous questionnaire. There were 100 participants.
Results – most of the women didn‘t know about beneficial impact of omega fatty acids to them or their infants, newborns. Respondents frequently assigned folic acids advantages to omega fatty acids. Also, analysed data showed that more than half of the women didn‘t even use omega fatty acids during pregnancy, whilist less than a half of the women stated that there is not enough information on this topic.
