dc.description Aim of the study: To assess the importance of stress experienced by X-ray technologists in adapting to the working environment. Objectives of the study: 1. To analyse scientific literature related to the concept of occupational stress, taking into consideration scientific insights related to stress experienced by medical staff. 2. To reveal the emotional experience of X-ray technologists who have experienced stress. 3. To identify the stress factors contributing to and hindering adaptation to the working environment after experiencing stress. Research methodology: Qualitative descriptive research has been carried out. Semi-structured interview has been applied. The study was conducted at radiology departments of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kaunas Hospital of Oncology, Public Enterprise Elektrėnai Hospital and Republican Vilnius University Hospital. During the study, 10 X-ray technologists working in the X-ray room were interviewed. Thematic analysis method was chosen for qualitative research. Study outcomes: During data analysis two themes were highlighted: The initial response of X-ray technologists to stress at work and the factors contributing to and hindering adaptation to the working environment. Subthemes were distinguished to provide deeper insight into the themes. When describing the material of each subtheme, similar experiences were grouped together, the material was compared with the analysed results of scientific studies and conclusions reached by literary analysis. Conclusions: The results of the analysis of scientific literature and the study carried out have revealed the following: 1. Stress leads to many negative emotions. It can cause a lot of harmful psychological and physiological consequences. Due to high workload and constant stress at work of doctors, occupational stress is experienced and the “burnout” syndrome adversely affects the quality of their work, health and personal well-being. 2. X-ray technologists often experience stress at work. Study participants revealed that having encountered with various stressful situations they feel anxiety, tension, anger, rage, despair, frustration, various physical changes. Work does not meet their expectations and desires. The experienced negative emotions undermine the quality of their work, reduce motivation for work, and adversely affect the health of X-ray technologists. The resulting physical changes cause discomfort. Unfulfilled desires and expectations cause disappointment and uncertainty about the chosen profession. 3. The subjects identified that stressful situations are caused by the abundance of patients, conflicting patients, disagreements with their colleagues, excessive demands of physicians, breaking medical equipment, and underestimation of their work. X-ray technologists must have psychological knowledge in order to avoid conflict situations. In order to protect themselves from stress, they are trying to work properly, engage in their favourite activities. Sometimes they cannot do without medicines or the help of psychologist. en
