dc.description Work relevance. In 2014, Lithuanian institutional child care homes saw the beginning of their reform. While trying to make the conditions for children in care similar to those of a family environment, institutional child care homes are being reorganised and community-based child care homes are constituted instead where community services are provided for children in non-parental care and children facing social risks. This work aims to establish the problems social workers face while working in community-based child care homes. Practical value of the work. The obtained findings of the work can be used in developing and improving the activity of a social worker in community-based child care homes. The aim of the work – to establish the problems social workers face while working in community-based child care homes. The question of the research. What kind of problems social workers face while working in community-based child care homes? The tasks of the work: 1. To describe the process of shifting from institutional childcare to the services provided in a family and community in Lithuania. 2. To define the concept of community-based child care homes. 3. To reveal the activities of a social worker working in community-based child care homes 4. To identify the problems of social workers in communitybased child care homes. Methods of the empirical research. Quantitative descriptive research. 27 social workers working in community-based child care homes were interviewed. The results and conclusions of the work. Based on the data analysis of this research it can be said that most of the respondents face issues because the work load is too big, because of the lack of separate room for individual work with children in care and the lack of clear methods for work in community-based child care homes. The respondents usually have issues in developing children’s in care skills of tax payment and thriftiness, cooking and order keeping as well as because of their unwillingness to do homework and go to school. The findings of the research revealed the problems of inter-institutional collaboration – one fifth of the respondents are facing problems cooperating with specialists of educational institutions. The respondents also have issues because of a negative attitude of neighbouring people towards the children from childcare homes. While working in community-based child care homes the respondents often feel emotional strain and lack of security because of the violence by children in care against the workers. en
