dc.description Vaida Morozaitė. Bachelor thesis " The social integration difficulties of children who were raised in an orphanage". Supervisor, Saulius Davainis. Kaunas University of applied sciences. The faculty of medicine. Departament of social work. Kaunas, 2018. Thesis relevance: Social integration is directly linked to how successful and satisfied a person feels. Many children who leave social homes, and have lost their parents often face difficulties when trying to integrate themselves into society. This is due to the lack of education that social institutions provide in regards to financial management, job seeking, and personal responsibilities. This thesis analyses how this problem could be addressed and proposes solutions. The primary focus of this study is: Research what kind of issues orphaned children face when trying to integrate themselves into society. Tasks: 1. Define what social integration into the society means. 2. Analyze how social workers and their jobs influence the social integration process of children within orphanages. 3. Reveal all of the difficulties that children living in orphanages face when trying to integrate themselves into society. Short description of this study: This bachelor's thesis is made up of two parts - theory, where various literature of Lithuanian and foreign authors about the influence that orphanages have when it comes to successful social integration is analyzed. And, an empirical experiment where multiple difficulties and issues of independent living are investigated through a semi-structured interview. Work methods that have been utilized: Research was conducted using qualitative analysis. Semi-structured interviews were used to gather data from children that have lived in orphanages, but since then have been living independently. All of the extracted data was systemized and later used to analyze the problem. Research results and conclusions: Research helped determine that living independently is difficult for many orphaned children. That is why it's critical to prepare them for this during their stay at the orphanage. One of the most important aspects of independent living is how well and how early orphanages start educating children about financial responsibilities, and other issues of adulthood. During the empyrical qualitative analysis, it was noted that children often lacked the skills they require to live independently. They didn't know much about financial responsibilities, job seeking, renting or owning a living space. It was concluded that either more education or interference of an expert is needed when children start living independently. Also, it's crucial to form the right mindset, so that children who leave orphanages would be motivated to improve their lives. en
