dc.description E. Gricius Assessment of hand and finger grip strength and independence of the persons who feel cervical spine pain; professional bachelor’s final work. Academic supervisor Veronika Sliževskytė; University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Rehabilitation. Topic of the work. Assessment of hand and finger grip strength and independence of the persons who feel cervical spine pain. Objective of the study. To assess the hand and finger grip strength and independence of the persons who feel cervical spine pain. Tasks. 1. To assess the hand and finger grip of the persons who feel cervical spine pain. 2. To assess the independence of the persons who feel cervical spine pain. 3. To assess the correlations of hand and finger grip strength and independence of the persons who feel cervical spine pain. Methodology. 12 people – 6 men and 6 women – took part in the study. All of them came for rehabilitation to RK MEDICUS UAB. The participants were examined before the beginning of the rehabilitation. During the study, we assessed the independence of the persons, hand grip muscle strength, finger grip muscle strength, we determined the demographic indicators. FIT (functional independence test) was used for the assessment of independence. We used a dynamometer to assess the hand grip muscle strength. A manometer was used to assess the finger grip muscle strength. The questionnaire, formed by the author, was used for the determination of demographic indicators. Results. The analysed results of the study showed that the hand grip strength of the participants disturbed. The hand grip of the predominant hand of men was 38.92±12.83 kg, and that of non-dominating hand was 36.12±8.20 kg. The hand grip of the predominant hand of women was 24.11±3.08 kg, the hand grip strength of non-dominating hand was 23.83±2.00 kg. The results also showed that the finger grip muscle of the women is normal and is not disturbed, but the finger grip muscle power of men in the key manner is disturbed in both predominant hand 6.49±0.87 kg and non-dominating hand 5.76±2.00 kg. After the assessment of the persons’ independence with FIT, total point of men was 121.33±1.86 points, and that of women was 120.66±1.03 points. With reference to the received results, we distinguished 5 independent activities which were disturbed. After analysing the influence of hand grip muscle strength on the independence, we determined that both predominant hand (r=0.863) and non-dominating hand (r=0.783) have great influence on eating for men. Also, the grip strength of the predominant hand had great influence on the dressing of the lower part of men (r=0.765). We found the average strength correlation (r=0.552) between the predominant hand grip strength and eating of women, also, with a non-dominating hand (r=0.627). Conclusions. 1. After assessing the hand and finger grip strength of the participants, we determined that the hand grip of the predominant hand of women was smaller than the standard, and the hand grip strength of both predominant and non-dominating hands of men was smaller than the standard, also, finger grip strength in the key manner was less than the standard for both hands. 2. After assessing the independence of the participants, we determined that it was disturbed in the following activities: eating, personal hygiene, bathing, dressing of the upper and lower body parts. 3. The received results indicate that for men, hand and finger grip strength makes the greatest influence on eating and dressing of the upper and lower body part. For women, hand and finger grip strength makes the greatest influence on eating. en
