dc.description	The relevance of the paper. The research is relevant due to the fact that although there are many scholars (e.g., Conboy (2010), Tarantova (2017), Chang (2017)), who have analyzed newspapers and their stylistic peculiarities, the theme of stylistic peculiarities of brief news items and feature articles have still been little researched. In addition, this topic is important for the students of the study programme “English for Public Relations” as it is beneficial for appropriate usage of professional terms of the spheres of public communication. The subject matter of the paper is brief news items and feature articles, and their stylistic peculiarities. The problem question of the paper is what stylistic peculiarities are found in brief news items and feature articles. The aim of the paper is to identify the stylistic peculiarities of brief news items and feature articles. The objectives are 1) to theoretically define functional styles, their types, to describe the features typical to brief news items and feature articles; 2) to reveal the stylistic peculiarities of brief news items in the practical application; 3) to reveal the stylistic peculiarities of feature articles in the practical application. The methods used include: the analysis of theoretical references, the descriptive comparative linguistic analysis. The paper consists of two main parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part gives a review of scientific literature on functional styles, their classification, the peculiarities of brief news item and feature articles. Having analysed the arguments found in the theoretical works, the practical linguistic analysis was performed. The results reveal that brief news items transfer the information objectively, their vocabulary is neutral and simple. At syntactical level, complex structures with a developed system of clauses, nominalizations, and specific word-order prevail. Feature articles not only present the information, but also introduce subjective or emotional evaluation. Their vocabulary is expressive, emotional, includes personal comments. At syntactical level, short sentences without complex clauses, rhetorical questions and direct quotes prevail.	en_US
dc.description.abstract	Temos aktualumas. Nors laikraščių stilistinius ypatumus nagrinėjo ne vienas mokslininkas (pvz., Conboy (2010), Tarantova (2017), Chang (2017)), trumpųjų naujienų ir teminių straipsnių stilistinių ypatumų tema mažai ištirta. Be to, ši tema svarbi studijų programos „Anglų kalba ryšiams su visuomene“ studentams, nes yra naudinga, siekiant tinkamai naudoti viešosios komunikacijos profesinius terminus. Darbo objektas yra trumposios naujienos, teminiai straipsniai ir jų stilistiniai ypatumai. Tyrimo klausimas – kokie stilistiniai ypatumai būdingi trumposioms naujienoms ir teminiams straipsniams? Darbo tikslas – nustatyti stilistinius trumpųjų naujienų ir teminių straipsnių ypatumus. Darbo uždaviniai: 1) teoriškai apibrėžti funkcinius stilius, jų tipus, apibūdinti trumposioms naujienoms ir teminiams straipsniams būdingas savybes; 2) atskleisti stilistinius trumpųjų naujienų ir teminių straipsnių ypatumus praktikoje. Darbo metodai: 1) teorinės medžiagos analizė; 2) lingvistinė analizė, pagrįsta aprašymu bei palyginimu. Darbas susideda iš dviejų pagrindinių dalių: teorinės ir praktinės. Teorinėje dalyje aptariami funkciniai stiliai, jų klasifikavimas, trumpųjų naujienų ir teminių straipsnių ypatumai. Apibendrinus teorinius teiginius, atlikta lingvistinė analizė. Remiantis lingvistinės analizės rezultatais, galima teigti, kad trumposiose naujienose informacija perduodama objektyviai, vyrauja neutralus, paprastas žodynas. Sintaksiniame lygmenyje dominuoja sudėtiniai sakiniai, nominalizacija ir specifinė žodžių tvarka. Teminiai straipsniai pateikia ne tik informaciją, bet ir subjektyvų, emocinį vertinimą. Jų žodynas yra išraiškingas, emocingas, įtraukiami rašytojo komentarai. Sintaksiniame lygmenyje vyrauja trumpi sakiniai, retoriniai klausimai ir tiesioginė kalba.	en_US
