dc.description Pratusevičiūtė Guoda. Analysis of life quality after spinal cord injury. Occupational therapy program, Professional Bachelor of Health Sciences, Supervisor - Daiva Baltaduonienė, Kauno Kolegija, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Rehabilitation, Kaunas, 2018m. This bachelor thesis analyses life quality after spinal cord injury. This traumatic change essencially changes the lives of those who have experienced it and also the lifes of their relatives. The purpose of occupational therapy is to help these people adapt to the changing living conditions. The aim of the thesis is to investigate life quality after spinal cord injury. Research questions: 1. Having experienced spinal cord injury, based on your own experience, what problems did you encounter? 2.How has your day-to-day work and leisure activities changed? 3. What helps to overcome and solve emerging problems? 4.How do you rate your life quality? Methods: To collect the information, several information gathering methods will be used. Qualitative research method will be applied. The experiences of an individual will be revealed using interview method, during which the main questions of the research will be supplemented by other questions. While listening to the audio information, the main topics will be highlighted, which later will be analysed in the subtitles. Insights: 1. In cases of spinal cord injury, problems with movement, housing adaptation difficulties and additional health problems occur; such as overweight, bladder catheterization, bedsores and severe, persistent pain. Such problems vastly reduce the quality of life after suffering a spinal cord injury. 2. Self-realization in work after spinal cord injury has changed significantly and satisfaction with work activity has decreased. One of the subjects has no opportunity to work at all. Other subjects were looking for a job that did not require much physical energy and adapted to changing conditions at work. Significant changes in leisure time were not noticed. The subjects are engaged in their favourite activities, as well as discovering new interests. The daily activities of one of the subjects have changed completely; for other subjects, environment and conditions for daily activities were adapted according to their needs. 3. There are two help groups that can help to cope with the challenges that an individual encounters. It is the help of relatives and organizations or societies. 4. At the end of the research it became clear that determination of life quality depends on the level of the severity of the trauma. Two subjects, whose levels of damage were Th4-5 and C7, value their life quality positively. The third participant in the study, with a C5-6 vertebral disorder, was disappointed with the quality of his life and assessed it unsatisfactorily. en
