dc.description Roles of a social worker in the social adaptation process of care home population. Working in a care home, a social worker must ensure, as far as possible, the welfare of residents and the quality of life, overcome social exclusion, address the issues of residents, interact with them, include them in joint activities, arrange for their leisure, carry out social rehabilitation, help them adapt, and provide social services helping them maintain social ties with their family and relatives as well as in their public life. It is, therefore, key to study the importance of the roles of a social worker in the process of residents’ adaptation. Subject-matter of the study: roles of a social worker in the social adaptation process of care home population. Aim of the study: to identify the roles of a social worker in the social adaptation process of care home population. Objectives of the study: 1. To explain the concepts of age and ageing. 2. To explain the process of social adaptation by elderly and old people in care homes. 3. To identify the roles of a social worker in the social adaptation process of care home population. Study methodology: for the purpose of the study, the following have been invoked: the quantitative study method, analysis of scholarly references, a written survey using a closed and a semi-closed ended questionnaire. 5 main roles carried out by a social worker in the social adaptation process of care home population were under scrutiny; but the results of the study showed that their importance and significance differed. The roles of an educator, mediator and enabler were the most distinctive ones. As demonstrated by the outcome of the study, the above roles are highly important in the social adaptation process of the population. In the educator’s role, a social worker helps develop independence and helps adapt to the changed conditions of the environment. Residents consider it key that performing the role of a mediator a social worker gathers and assesses information about their problems and the environment and represents their interests in other institutions. A social worker’s role as an enabler is also significant to the residents as they help identify their needs and issues, and help express their feelings, throughts and fears. According to the respondents, the roles of a counsel (advocate) and an adviser appeared to to be less important in the adaptation process. Advice on the issues of concern is always required by them; however, it is not as significant. en
