Evelina Lamsodienė; Kaunas University of Applied Sciences. Medical faculty, -Kaunas, 2018. Depression is one of the most common ilnesses in Lithuania and the world. Based on research carried out by WHO in 14 states, almost a quarter of patients were diagnosed with psychological disorders, most commonly depression (10.4 percent) The target of this study is to evaluate changes in motivation and the quality of life of people suffering from depression when occupational therapy is applied. The main tasks of the study are the following: 1) evaluation of motivation of patients prior and after occupational therapy was employed; 2) evaluation of the quality of life of patients prior and after occupational therapy was applied. The study was carried out in the Republican Hospital of Kaunas branch Psychiatric Hospital, Aleksotas sector. Before creative methods were applied, in order to establish a baseline, the motivation and quality of life of the test subjects was researched. SF-36 and Multidimensional health locus of control questionnaires were employed. During the study three sessions per week were carried out, with a total of 10 sessions per person. At the end of the study, the motivation and quality of life was evaluated by the same methods as prior to the study. Researches. The test subjects of the study were 17 patients (10 female and 7 male) of the Psychiatric Hospital of the Republican Hospital of Kaunas. The average age of the subjects was 30.3 years. Results. When inner motivation was evaluated prior to occupational therapy, it was found to be sufficient. After the application of occupational therapy inner motivation improved for more than a half of the test subjects, whereas for the rest it remained unchanged. When the quality of life was evaluated by the SF-36 questionnaire the results of physical health, e.g. physical activity and pain, the results were high. Activity inihibtion due to physical ilness and general evaluation of health were found to be average. After occupational therapy was utilized, the evaluation of all the indices listed before showed improvement. Mental health (energy, social function, activity inhibition due emotional disorder and emotional wellbeing) were evaluated as average prior to occupational therapy. After it was applied, energy increased for a quarter of the subject;, evaluation of social functioning and role limitations due to emotional problems improved for approximately half of the test subjects and emotional well-being improved for a third of the test subjects Conclusions. After creative methods were employed, the test subjects were found to base less of their success on luck, had more confidence and showed an increase in motivation. Although the evaluation of their health improved marginally, the general health condition showed improvement. en
