dc.description	The activities of social workers who work in childcare institutions relate to children deprived of parental care for a variety of reasons. Children that are in a childcare institution lack basic social skills and do not have motivation to learn. Social workers are tasked with developing the children’s deprived of parental care motivation to learn and social skills and many other functions assisting a child that are normally carried out by the parents in a family. The key question of the study raised in the final thesis is what the characteristics of a social worker’s professional competence are when working with children deprived of parental care. The aim of the thesis is to explain the characteristics of social workers’ professional competence when working with children deprived of parental care. The following objectives have been set to achieve the above aim: 1) to analyse the situation of children in care in Lithuania; 2) to give a description of the characteristics of social workers’ professional competence when working with children deprived of parental care; 3) to identify the characteristics of social workers’ professional competence whilst working in childcare institutions; Methods of the thesis: analysis of scholarly references, and a written questionnaire-based survey. The quantitative study was carried out in April to May 2018 at childcare institutions across Kaunas region. The participants of the study included thirty social workers. The study had an aim to determine what knowledge, skills and personal characteristics were attributed to professional competence by social workers who worked in childcare institutions. This would help social workers work with children deprived of parental care in an even more efficient manner. The study has established that social workers who work with children deprived of parental care are characterised by responsibility, honesty and patience; it is important for them to be able to interact with children and have a good understanding of the child’s psychology at different ages. When working with children, the skill to listen to others and the ability to cope with stress are key. The preferred method for professional development is sharing information with colleagues, whereas the forms of professional development preferred by the workers are considered to be placements in other institutions and a few-day training. The study has showed that the difficulties faced whilst working in childcare institutions arecaused by the issues pertinent to the child’s role and behaviour.	en
dc.description.abstract	Socialinių darbuotojų, dirbančių vaikų globos įstaigose veikla yra siejama su vaikais, kurie dėl įvairių priežasčių yra netekę tėvų ar tėvų globos. Vaikai, patekę į vaikų globos įstaigą, stokoja elementarių socialinių įgūdžių, neturi mokymosi motyvacijos. Socialinių darbuotojų užduotis – likusių be tėvų globos vaikų mokymosi motyvacijos ugdymas, socialinių įgūdžių formavimas ir daugelis kitų pagalbos vaikui funkcijų, kurias įprastai šeimoje atlieka tėvai. Baigiamajame darbe keliamas pagrindinis tyrimo klausimas - kokie yra socialinio darbuotojo profesinės kompetencijos ypatumai dirbant su tėvų globos netekusiais vaikais?	en_US
