A significant part of our society, unfortunately, are unable to cope with the problems they face, to take care of themselves, they are lonely, marginalised and abandoned. In most cases, family or relatives come to help; however, there are situations when there is no one around. This is when social workers can help. According to Valiukeviciene (Lukoseviciene, 1999, Valiukeviciene quoted; 2011; p. 11), the aim of a social worker’s profession is to help a person to find the way out when facing a trouble, problems and striving for a more harmonious life. Object of the thesis –activities of a social worker when providing social services at the Homeless shelter. Aim of the thesis – to show the activities of a social worker when providing social services at the Homeless shelter. To reach the objectives of the empirical research, qualitative study was chosen. It is recommended to apply a qualitative study when the task is to learn about people’s attitudes, beliefs, perception of a certain topic, the reasons for certain behaviour, to see the picture of valuesof the respondents, to find out about their needs (Libermanaite, 2013; Pupieniene quoted, 2013). The aim of a semi-structured interview was to show the practical aspect of the activities of social workers at the Homeless shelter. In the present study, the researcher is interested not only in the analysis of the topic under consideration, but also in the possibility to change the current situation. The respondents were the social workers of the Homeless shelter - 1 male respondent and 5 female respondents. The semi-structured interview consisted of 5 main open questions that were expanded later during the interview. The research results show that the social workers of the Homeless shelter do their best to help their patients. They accept the clients without any prejudice,they do not judge or condemn them. The social workers are involved in various activities that depend on the problems and emotional state of each client. At the Homeless shelter, persons without permanent accommodation are provided with the possibilities to meet their social needs: they get safe shelter during the night, information, counselling, mediation in restoring social relations with their family, development of independence as well as medical advice. The results of the study lead to the conclusion that during their work with the clients, the social workers do their best to have a fast ant proper contact with the patients.	en
dc.description.abstract	Benamystė – tai viena iš socialinės atskirties formų, į kurią patekę žmonės dažnai atsiduria už pilietinės visuomenės ribų. Tyrimai rodo, kad benamių skaičius auga visose pasaulio šalyse. Siekiant kryptingai formuoti socialinės politikos priemones, ieškant būdų, kaip šiuos žmones integruoti į visuomenę, sumažinti jų skaičių arba palengvinti jų būvį, būtina pažinti šį reiškinį (Kocai, 2006). Benamystė yra sudėtingai perprantamas žmonijos reiškinys, kuris yra įtakojamas įvairių veiksnių, tokių kaip: santykių iširimas, smurtas šeimoje, darbo netektis, piktnaudžiavimas priklausomybę sukeliančiomis medžiagomis, išėjimas iš kalėjimo ar psichiatrinės ligoninės. Visa tai stipriai paveikia asmenis bei šeimas skirtingais jų gyvenimo momentais, dėl ko yra svarbu turėti kaip jiems padėti, pasitelkiant į pagalbą Nakvynės namus.	en_US
