dc.description Relevance. Medical procedures that are taking place in the nuclear medicine department are the most requiring, in terms of actions required before them and precautions to be taken after the procedure is done. According to the data of the hygiene institute, which was collected from the compulsory health insurance, in Lithuania, throughout the years of the 2015-2017, there were 4433 tests of kidney dynamic scintigraphy and 5203 tests of heart scintigraphy. These tests are conducted in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda. Out of the 3 cities, in Kaunas, LSMUL KK makes up 47,12 percent of the kidney scintigraphy and 67,31 percent of heart scintigraphy. It has been found that the preparation of the patients has an impact on the quality of the scintigraphy tests; incorrect information provided to the patient may affect the fluency of the procedure. If the patient is not briefed properly, the test might be delayed or the results of the test might be not accurate. To achieve the best results, the conductor of the test – radiology technician – has to ensure that the patient is briefed and prepared properly. The aim of the study. To uncover the knowledge of the patients about the tests of kidney and heart scintigraphy. Goals of the study: 1. Theoretically describe the kidney and heart scintigraphy procedures. 2. Assess the knowledge of the patients about the kidney and heart scintigraphy. 3. Compare the knowledge of the patients about the kidney and heart scintigraphy. Method of the research. The research was conducted in LSMUL Kaunas, the department of nuclear medicine. Time frame – February to April in 2018. The research was started once an approval has been received from LSMU centre of bioethics. Surveys have been selected to collect the data from the patients. There were two groups that have taken part in the study. The first group were the patients that had the kidney scintigraphy, the other group were the patients that had the heart scintigraphy. In total, there were 93 anonymous respondents. The data of the surveys was analysed with PSPP software. Results and conclusions. In scientific literature, it is explained that in the procedures of heart and kidney scintigraphy some radioactive materials are put in use, a unique preparation is required and precautions must be taken after the procedure. After the research, the data shows that the knowledge of the patients about the kidney and heart scintigraphy is limited, no matter the gender and location. The patients of kidney scintigraphy are found to have less knowledge about the procedure than the patients of the heart scintigraphy. en
