dc.description Petkus G. "Assessment of the quality of life in patients with lung diseases undergoing computed tomography medical procedure of the chest organs". Lecturer of the bachelor's degree in radiology studies Ina Kurtinaitienė; Kauno kolegija/University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Biomedical Diagnostics. Kaunas, 2018: p 55. Actual: Patients with lung disease suffer from various illness symptoms, causing both physical and psychosocial problems, along with radiological diagnosis and treatment methods affecting quality of life. Aim of the study - to assess the quality of life in patients with pulmonary diseases undergoing computed tomography medical procedure of the chest organs. Objectives of the study: 1) to reveal the peculiarities of health related quality of life; 2) to assess the examination rate and method of computed tomography of the thoracic organs. 3) to assess differences in quality of life in patients who have undergone chest CT examination. Object of research - the quality of life in patients with pulmonary diseases undergoing computed tomography medical procedure of the chest organs. Methods. The survey was conducted in 2018 from January till March at the Kaunas Clinics of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMUL VšĮ KK) and LSMUL VšĮ KK Branch Oncology Hospital (LSMUL VšĮ KK FOL). Anonymous questionnaires were used to survey 60 patients with lung cancer 100,0%. (N = 60) (response rate – 75,0% (N = 45)). Targeted selection of two groups of subjects 100,0%. (N = 45): first group (N = 25) - chemotherapytreated patients, second group (N = 20) - radiotherapy-treated patients. The quality of life of the subjects was evaluated by standardized questionnaires compiled by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC): EORTC QLQ-C30 (version 3) and EORTC QLQ-LC13; An additional 14 questionnaire was created. The author's permission to use standardized questionnaires and their methodologies was obtained, as well as permission of the Center for Bioethics at LSMU on January 12, 2018, No. BEC-KK (B) -08 perform a study. Results. The study involved two groups of patients with lung cancer. First group 55,6% (n = 25) - patients received chemotherapy, the second group 44,4%. (n = 20) - radiation therapy. The results show that the medical procedure of computed tomography was performed at different rate, the most common CT scan was performed once in 6 months and accounted for 48,9%. (n = 22) of all respondents. Assessing differences in the quality of life and functional scale of patients, it was observed that the quality of life of the first group of patients significantly differed from the second group (p <0,001). In the evaluation of functional scales, chemotherapy-treated patients reported a high incidence of occupational, cognitive and social impairment, compared with radiotherapy-treated patients. Conclusions. Health-related quality of life involves the physical, psychological and social factors. Patients with lung disease suffer from symptoms, physical condition, causing psychosocial experiences, which are contributed by methods of radiological diagnosis and treatment affecting the quality of life. Often, undergoing computed tomography examinations on the thoracic organs, patients should be properly informed about ionizing radiation and selected proper scan protocol to minimize patient's exposure. In assessing differences in quality of life, it can be argued that in the first group of patients undergoing chemotherapy the overall quality of life is lower than that of the second group of patients undergoing radiotherapy. Prepared practical recommendations for patients undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy. en
