dc.description Relevance of the topic: Ivanauskienė and Varžinskienė (2010), Banks (2001), Johnson (2001) discusse the values of the social worker. The research on the principles of value-based work with old and elderly people has not been found, but this does not mean that this problem is not relevant in Lithuania. Values have always been, and will be, significant in the work and life of a social worker. Purpose of work: To reveal the principles of the values of social worker’s activities while working with older and old people. Subject matter of the work: Principles of the values of social worker’s activities while working with older and old people. Research question: What is the importance the values of social worker’s activities in social work while working with older and old people? Methods of the research: analysis of scientific literature, articles, documents, laws. Collection of research data using qualitative research, semi-structured interview method and analysis of data obtained during the interview. Conclusions of the research. An empirical study reveald that while working with elderly and old people, a social worker follows the principles of interpersonal relations: individualization, meaningful expression of feelings, controlled emotional engagement, unlawful reception, client self-determination, confidentiality. It has been found that while working with elderly and old people, social workers create an authentic relationship with their client, by learning the life history of an elderly person, revealing their own and client’s feelings, accepting the client with his/her disadvantages and advantages. The study revealed that only two informants had difficulties in applying the principles of value at the beginning of their social work because of their lack of confidence. The study found that social workers follow the values set out in the code of Ethics for Lithuanian social workers: respect, empathy, responsibility, honesty. Informants do not imagine how social work with elderly and old people could be done without a clear understanding of the principles of the value. en
