In this bachelor thesis the legal regulation of social policy in the European Union is analysed; scientific literature related to the concept and priorities of social policy and social protection; European Union treaties, their impact on the development of European Union social policy. This topic is worth to be examined because social policy is precisely the area where the issues are related to people's needs, whims, the quality of life, etc. People need to understand the system of European Union's social policy and its meaning. Both significance and relevance of social policy are very visible in the conditions of nowadays where adverse demographic and economic changes are observed which are not only specific to the European Union member states but even to Lithuania, such as a very declining birth rate, an increase in the number of people of retirement age ,increasing numbers of people experiencing poverty and social exclusion, unemployment, emigration. The problem of this research - when the needs of social benefits are increasing, problems arise in the social sphere, appears the problem of social budget deficit and, besides, it negatively affects the development of local economy. The aim of the research is to analyze the social policy aspects of the European Union. The methods of the research that have been applied: literature and legal analysis; reading to collect and select information; In addition, a comparative analysis was used to cpmapre various concepts. The structure of the work consists of a summary of the Lithuanian language, an English summary, introduction, 3 chapters (the main priorities of the European Union social policy, the basics of social protection, the treaties between the European Union and their impact on the development of the social policy for the European Union), conclusions and references. The research results have been achieved. After the aim of the reserach was set, the main aspects of the European Union's social policy were analyzed; European Union treaties, their impact on social policy; legal documents regulating social policy and the basics of social protection. The work consists of 50 pages, 38 references and sources of information.	en
