dc.description E. Gumbytė's professional bachelor's work is completed - “Population Approach to Rational Drug Use in Older Age”. Head: Regina Motiene. Division: Department of Pharmacy Engineering, Kaunas Faculty of Medicine. Kaunas. Aim of the thesis: To find out the attitudes of the population towards the irrational use of medicines in the elderly. Research tasks: 1. Discuss the peculiarities of treatment of older people in the theoretical context; 2. Review rational and irrational use of medicines; 3. To reveal the attitude of the population towards the irrational use of medicines in older age. Research Methods and Participants: 116 interviews with older respondents living in Vandžiogala were interviewed by age, age 65 and over. The study was conducted in April, 2019, and anonymity was ensured during the study, ensuring that the data will be used for scientific purposes. The survey method was used for the research - written survey. Closed questions were used for the survey. The study looked at how older people appreciate their health and what measures they take in cases of anxiety. The aim was to find out how people view the irrational use of medicines in older age and how they perceive it. It also sought to clarify the opinion of older people and the effects of medicines, as well as the knowledge about the medicines used. During the study, it was wanted to find out if the elderly had enough information about the medicines they use, what they do to choose, how to choose them, and to compare men and women. After the survey, the attitude of older people towards irrational drug use was clarified. The majority of respondents do not think that older age can lead to drug efficacy, respondents are obliged to use medicines prescribed by a physician, but do not exclude the possibility of discretionary use of advertising, pricing, and recommendations. Most of the respondents rely on the doctor's instructions and are therefore not interested in the composition and dose of the medicine, as they are not interested in the composition and some are taking several medicines, which may lead to a risk of drug incompatibility. Respondents do not exclude that medicines can be chosen for the disease themselves, without the help of a specialist, so we can assume that there is an irrational use of drugs among the elderly. en
