dc.description There is an increase in the birth rate of children with Down syndrome, and hence there is a growing likelihood that such children and their families will be in need of a nurse assistance. Nurse‘s work is to meet the nursing needs of children with Down sindrome and to meet the expectations of their parents as well. The birth of a child with a congenital chromosomal abnormality replaces vital aspects of a family life, quite often it beraks emotional stability, lifestyle, and family relationships. This can occur with reactions such as shock, confusion, anxiety, guilt, depression, despair, grief, exhaustion. Work objective: To determine educational activities of a community nurse in a family raising a child with down syndrome. Work objects: 1. To reveal theconcept of Down syndrome. 2. To review the physiological and psychosocial factors of families having a child with Down syndrome. 3.To examine the expectations of a family raising a child with Down syndrome for the community nurse's educational activities. Methodologyofthework: Analyzed and systematised scientific literature of Lithuanian and foreign authors; Anonymous questionnaire survey, applied mathematical data analysis; Interviews analyzed by content analysis method; Monitoring. 23 respondents participated in the study. Results: Most respondents said that their child with Down sindrome has physical and psychological symptoms that were associated with co-morbidity. Most of the parents experienced shock and panic when a child was born. Most families revealed that having a child with a disability changes the relationship with a spouse, changes the way they work and working conditions, but also, more than a half of the respondents said that no change in life occurred. Analyzing the results, four fifths of the respondents expected to get the information about Down syndrome disorder from community caregivers. More than a half of families said that they lack knowledge of specialists (speech therapists, psychologists) and information about where to apply for specialist care. en_US
dc.description.abstract Mokslinėje literatūroje išanalizuota Dauno sindromo samprata ir šeimos, auginančios vaiką su Dauno sindromu, psichosocialiniai ir fiziologiniai poreikiai. Tyrimas atliktas anketine apklausa, interviu ir stebėjimu. Ištirti šeimos, auginančios vaiką su Dauno sindromu, fiziologiniai ir psichosocialiniai poreikiai, šeimos lūkesčiais bendruomenės slaugytojos edukacinėje veikloje. Išanalizavus tyrime gautus rezultatus, pastebima, kad šeimos iš bendruomenės slaugytojų tikėjosi informacijos apie sutrikimą, pabrėžė, kad trūksta iš bendruomenės slaugytojų žinių apie specialistus ir informacijos, kur kreiptis specialistų pagalbos (logopedų, kineziterapeutų). en_US
