Academic Supervisor - Lecturer Nerija Mikalauskienė. Department of Law, Faculty of Management and Economics, Kauno Kolegija/ University of Applied Sciences. The pre-trial stage is the main and the most important stage of the criminal proceedings, therefore it is important to analyse investigators’ work planning problems in the main pre-trial stage institution – the police. The main problem of the professional BA thesis: The work of pre-trial investigation officers is not clearly regulated by legislation, there are legal gaps, therefore officers are faced with these problems: lack of competence, inappropriate working conditions, high workload, inappropriate distribution of functions. The aim of the professional BA thesis: To identify and analyse the main practical problems of investigators’ work planning in the police institution. Objectives of the professional BA thesis: The investigators’ work planning problems. Methods of the professional BA thesis: Analysis of scientific literature and legislation, empirical research, comparative analysis, observation. The structure: In the first chapter the main pre-trial institution – police, the main functions of pre-trial investigators and the police reform 2015-2020 are analysed. In the second chapter the main work organization problems of the investigators, their causes and possible solutions are analysed. The third chapter describes the purpose, tasks and results of the empirical research. The results: After analysing the scientific literature, the investigators’ work planning problems and possible ways of solving them were identified. The main problems are: lack of investigators’ competence, inappropriate working conditions, high workload, inappropriate distribution of functions of prosecutors and investigators. The empirical study found that the problems analysed in the literature are still relevant in practice. The most common problem in practice is the high workload. The least relevant issue is the inappropriate distribution of functions between investigators and prosecutors. According to the respondents, this problem is partially solved. The work consists of 45 pages, 14 figures, 36 references and sources of information. en
