dc.description	Relevance of the topic: formerly there was a high social isolation of people with mental disabilities, and such people almost did not take any part in social life, there was little concern about their problems and needs. People with mental disabilities are different, society avoids them because it is afraid of their exclusive appearance or actions, we think that such people are dysfunctional, and that we need to distance ourselves from them. Social workers who work with people with mental disabilities have to be well educated in this field, because such clients not only need to receive a lot of attention and be occupied with various activities, but also be interested in their environment, where they would not feel alienated from the society. Life situation for people with mental disabilities is changing to better: schools are creating favorable conditions for development of children with mental disabilities, various institutions are trying to create a hospitable environment for the disabled, there is a rise in number of emerging care institutions, such as day centers, social care homes and etc. Aim of the work: to reveal activities of social workers when working in day centers, with people with mental disability. Objectives of the work: 1. Explain the concept of people with mental disabilities. 2. Describe the activities of social workers when working with individuals with mental disabilities. 3. Determine activities of social workers when working with people with mental disabilities in day center. Object of the work: Activities of social workers when working in day centers with individuals with mental disabilities. Subject of the research: What activities are performed by social workers in day centers when working with people with mental disabilities? Research method: quality research, half structured interview. Three social workers who work with people with mental disabilities in day centers were questioned. Data collected from the interview was used to conduct a study analysis. Conclusions: the research showed that social workers who work in day centers with people with mental disabilities carry out the following activities: development activities, artistic activities, physical activities. Also, social workers offer social services, such as providing information, consulting, mediation and representation, nourishment, personal hygiene and supervision. In day centers social workers also carry out social-cultural activities: educational activities, knowledge of the world, reading and writing, musical sessions.	en
dc.description.abstract	Anksčiau buvo jaučiama didelė asmenų su proto negalia socialinė atskirtis, šie žmonės beveik nedalyvavo visuomeniniame gyvenime, nedaug buvo kalbama apie jų problemas, poreikius. Proto negalią turintys asmenys yra kitokie, visuomenė jų vengia, nes juos gąsdina išskirtinė išvaizda ar veiksmai, mano, kad šie žmonės nieko nesugeba ir reikia nuo jų atsiriboti. Socialiniai darbuotojai, dirbdami su proto negalią turinčiais asmenimis, turi gerai išmanyti savo darbą, nes šiems klientams reikia skirti dėmesio ir juos ne tik užimti įvairiomis veiklomis, bet ir sudominti, sukuriant tokią aplinką, kurioje jie nesijaustų visuomenės atstumtaisiais. Proto negalią turinčių asmenų gyvenimo situacija keičiasi į gerąją pusę: mokyklose sudaromos palankios sąlygos ugdytis vaikams su negalia, įvairiose institucijose stengiamasi sukurti aplinką palankią neįgaliesiems, vis daugiau kuriasi globos įstaigų, kaip dienos centrai, socialinės globos namai ir kt.	en_US
